BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team completed a flawless home weekend with a sweep of Marshall (25-20, 25-20, 25-15) on Sunday. The win gave the Owls (11-6, 3-2 C-USA) a winning conference record for the first time this season.
FAU more than doubled the Thundering Herd in hitting percentage, hitting .328 as a unit, compared to .145 for Marshall. Gabriela Martin and Kristina Rankovic tied with a team-high five total blocks, with Brittney Brown close behind with four. Offensively, Rankovic had 13 kills to lead the way for FAU. Genesis Viera led the Owls with 24 assists. She added 10 digs for her second consecutive double-double, and fifth of the season.
The first set was tight throughout, but FAU was able to maintain enough control to win the set 25-20. Set number two was equally competitive, but once again the Owls fought their way to a 25-20 victory and take a two sets to none lead. Maja Ristic's serving propelled an 8-0 Owls' run early in the third set, and FAU eventually ran away from Marshall, 25-15.
The Owls host Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 11. The match will start at noon. Free live stats and subscription-based live video of the match will be available at FAUsports.com.
