FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team opened its season against FGCU this weekend. The men competed against South Carolina, Buffalo, and Grand Canyon. The Owls finished in in fourth place with a total of 297 points.
The team of Christian Pineiro, Nicholas Landi, Michael Rahrig and Matthieu Burtez opened the meet with a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:36.80).
Individually, Pineiro followed that up with a fourth place finish in the 200 backstroke with a final time of 2:00.70. Landi competed in 100 breaststroke and recorded a final time of 1:00.59. Burtez recorded one of two top three finishes in the meet for FAU. The senior was able to secure a third place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.15. Freshman newcomer Rahrig followed suit in the 200 butterfly finishing in 1:56.85.
Malachi Oakes and Connor Hodges both set personal records in their respective events today. Oakes did so in the 100 IM with a final time of 54:49. Connor was able to imporve his best time in the 200 freestyle finishing in 1:44.54.
The Owls will host an Alumni and Family scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 10 at FAU Aquatic Center starting at 10 a.m.
