BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" Florida Atlantic University senior Claire Emslie has rewritten the FAU Women's Soccer record books and added another line on a long list of accolades by being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team on Thursday.
Emslie is one of just four forwards from Division I schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina to receive the honor, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors in those states. The Scotland native will be placed on a ballot to determine the CoSIDA Academic All-American Teams, to be released in late November.
Emslie, a senior captain, boasts a 3.87 grade point average in Exercise Science and Health Promotion while leading the Owls in several statistical categories. She tied the all-time goals scored mark last week as FAU clinched a spot in the program's first-ever Conference USA Tournament. She also holds the record for most shots taken by an FAU player and ranks among the top three in multiple records.
This season, Emslie has scored six goals and tallied four assists, taking 68 shots while starting each of FAU's 19 matches. Her .544 shots-on-goal percentage leads FAU's regular attackers and is one of the best marks in C-USA.
Emslie and the Owls will take on WKU Thursday night at 8 p.m. in their final regular-season match of 2015. FAU could secure a No. 2 seed in the C-USA Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 4 in Miami.
