BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University women's soccer standouts Claire Emslie and Sydney Drinkwater have earned Conference USA Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors, respectively, for their stellar performances this week.
The Owls (12-7, 6-3 C-USA) defeated UAB 4-0 on Friday, Oct. 23 before sealing a bid to the 2015 Conference USA Tournament with a 2-0 shutout at FIU on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Emslie became FAU's all-time leading goal scorer with a pair of game-winning goals over the weekend to reach a mark that had not been touched in 21 years. She sparked a four-goal second half against UAB on Friday night before scoring the first-half game-winner at FIU to beat the Panthers for the first time in her tenure. Emslie also moved into second all-time in points and game-winning goals scored in program history as she recorded an assist on Friday. Emslie placed eight of her ten shots of the weekend on goal, leading the Owls in both categories. She also became the first Owl to score in back-to-back games this season.
"I'm delighted to get the Player of the Week award," Emslie said. "It was nice to score on senior day and again to help us make it to the Tournament. I'm also excited that Sydney earned Keeper of the Week."
Drinkwater became the first FAU keeper in program history to record five consecutive solo shutout victories as the Owls downed UAB and FIU. On Sunday, Drinkwater set a career-high with 11 saves, including eight in the second half. Her 0.857 save percentage, 0.78 goals against average and nine shutouts all rank among the top three performances in a season in program history. Drinkwater has not allowed a goal in her last 472 minutes played, facing 60 shots in that span. She also earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors on Oct. 19, becoming just the second league keeper to repeat the award this season.
"Our coaches did a great job of preparing us for the weekend," Drinkwater said. "I'm glad we could get the seniors a win on senior day and get them into the Tournament for the first time."
The Owls go on the road to face WKU on Thursday, Oct. 29 to determine their seed in the Tournament, which begins on Nov. 4.
