Boca Raton, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University Swimming and Diving welcomed back dozens of Alumni Saturday for the annual Alumni Meet. Past and present Owls competed in 27 individual and relay events with many of the events being hotly contested. While everyone was excited to see so many former swimmers and divers, current FAU swimmers posted some fantastic swims.
Senior Matthieu Burtez had a strong meet as he set a new school record in the Men's 100 IM with a time of 53.07. Junior Konstantin Byshnev earned a hard fought win over former FAU standout Rich Andrews in the 200 Free, while John Nolte, John Brennock, Nick Landi and Bennett Bean all added wins for the Men as well.
On the Women's side Freshman Lydia Musleh took first in both the 50 and 200 Free while Senior Agi Bucz added wins in the 50 Back and 100 IM. Laura Conoscenti and Kyleigh Firman had a strong showing in the 100 Fly while Paulina Boeger and Claire Green took wins in the 100 Breast and 500 Free.
But the highlight of the meet came on the final event of the day when FAU Alum and current Head Coach Lara Preacco out swam 6 current FAU swimmers for the win in the 50 Free. When asked about the event, Coach Preacco noted, "Today was an outstanding event, it was great to see so many former Owls compete. We hope to see the event continue to grow, with each year bringing back more and more alumni."
Coach Preacco was also pleased with the swims from her current squad, "We had some outstanding swims today, they have been working hard, so today's meet was a nice way to break up the training."
After a successful event, the FAU Women will be back in action October 16th and 17th at FIU as they take on Conference USA foes Rice and ACC power Miami. Both the Men and Women return home October 31st against Northeast power Princeton.
