Team Results
The Florida Atlantic University women's cross country was led by an all-freshman team today. The team was able to take home a third place finish in the 5k at the Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday.
The Owls had an average time of 20:19.80 for a team total of 364 points. Freshman Johanna Freeman led the charge, coming in 64th place out of 250 runners with a final time of 19:54.80. Freeman was one of six girls able to record personal best on the day, she has improved her 5k time 50 seconds since the start of the season. Sophia Clark was also able to finish in the top 70, completing the race in 19:59.20 for 68th place.
Coming in 79th place was Erica Lersch with a time of 20:11.20. Molly Bryan finished 94th in 20:38.80. Gabriela Gonzalez and Jessica Brinson completed the race next for the Owls, finishing in 106th and 151st place with final times of 20:38.80 and 21:42.50.
Rounding out the team of freshmen were Kelsey Meltzer, Christina Humphries, Gabriella Ciraco and Grace Mendez with final times of 22:07.00, 22:16.20, 22:34.60, and 22:48.10, respectively.
Five other Owls were able to record personal bests today at the Disney Classic. Those girls were Lersch, Gonzalez, Brinson, Humphries, and Ciraco.
"To be able to race an all freshmen team and do as well as we did is awesome, and speaks volumes about the depth of our program. The future looks very bright," Said Coach Alex Smolka.
