Florida Atlantic University women's swimming and diving saw first place finishes from Agnes Bucz, Anett Kovacs, Frida Nilsson, Hannah Roper and Alexa Elkins in their 131.5 to 91.5 loss to FIU on Friday.
The team of Rachel Crino, Roper, Nilsson and Bucz started off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:45.68). Kovacs followed that up with a victory in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:51.59. Rachel Rende put up a lifetime best time in the 200 free (2:07.62).
Roper was FAU's top finisher in the 400 IM with a career best time of 4:49.78, which earned her fourth place. Sahra El-Hamaki also had a personal best time of 5:03.19 in this event. Roper tied for first in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:06.08.
Bucz saw her first win of the day in the 50 free (23.89). Her second victory came in the 100 free with a time of 51.22. Senior team captain Frida Nilsson took first in the 100 fly in 56.18.
Freshman Alexa Elkins took first in the three meter dive with a total score of 293.85 and second in the one meter with a score of 287.55. Fellow freshman Kiley Kuether claimed third in both the one meter (262.51) and three meter dives (284.10).
In the 500 free, Kovacs took second (5:01.35) with Abbey King close behind in third (5:02.04). El-Hamaki set another lifetime best in the 500 free with a time of 5:21.36. Diana Rodriguez also had a personal best time of 5:31.60.
The day ended with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.46) by the team of Nilsson, Katie Dodge, Kovacs, and Iwona Lefanowicz.
The men's team participated in exhibition events during the meet. Senior Torbjorn Persson set a lifetime best in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.96. Tucker Lewis had a career high time of 4:20.87 in the 400 IM. John Brennock and Cole Wisecarver had personal best times in the 500 free of 4:55.47 and 4:56.55, respectively.
The team will host its final meet of the regular season on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. against Indian River State College. The Owls' six seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the meet.
