UCF Tops Women's Soccer 1-0 in Late Friday Match

Sept. 6, 2014 ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater made five saves during regulation to keep UCF at bay, but the Knights came back in overtime to score a sudden-death goal, taking a 1-0 victory on Friday.
The match, which lasted until after midnight, was delayed due to inclement weather that pushed back the start of the men's game in the first part of the doubleheader in Orlando.
Claire Emslie posted a pair of shots, joined by shots by newcomers Jade Rhodes and Hildur Hauksdottir, but the Owls (2-2-1) were outshot 17-4 in the nonconference battle.
UCF's Alex Piercy scored the game-winner, her first goal of the season, in the 105th minute with assists by Hannah Debose and Jennifer Martin to hand the Knights their third win of the year.
The Owls will travel to Coral Gables on Sunday to face the University of Miami in a 2 p.m. match. Admission is free to all fans.
