Volleyball Loses to UMKC in Four Sets

The first set was tied 6-6, before the Owls (8-4) reeled off a 10-4 run to take control of the set, on their way to a 25-17 win. FAU held an early 4-1 lead in the second set, before UMKC quickly tied the score. The score would be tied 16 more times in the set, the final time at 23 before the Kangaroos took the next two points to tie the match at a set each.
In the third set, FAU worked its way out to an extended lead on several occasions, but each time, the Kangaroos fought back to tie the score. The eighth tie of the set came at 21, before UMKC won four of the next five points to take the frame.
UMKC got out to a 9-4 lead early in the fourth set, but the Owls fought all the way back to tie the score at 15. The rally proved futile as the Kangaroos closed on a 10-5 run to win the match.
Genesis Viera had 44 assists and 16 digs for her second double-double of the season. FAU will face Alabama State and FGCU on day two of the Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Classic.
