BROOKLYN, N. Y. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team saw its four game winning streak snapped in a 61-56 loss at St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday.
The Owls (5-4) missed several open layups in the first half. Despite that, FAU lead by seven late in the first half, after Marquan Botley hit a three-pointer to put the Owls up 21-14. From that point, SFC (4-7) closed the half on a 13-6 run to trim FAU's lead to 28-27 at the half.
The score and momentum seesawed several times in the second half, with each team taking the lead, only to have the other side answer and regain the advantage. Late in the game, the Terriers went on a 15-3 run to take a 56-45 lead with less than three minutes to go. Marquan Botley scored the game's next five points, followed by a Solomon Poole three to cut the deficit to three with less than a minute remaining.
However, on the ensuing possession, SFC's Jalen Cannon made the Terriers' only three pointer of the game to seal the win. Botley ended with 12 points, while Poole added 10. Kelvin Penn had eight points and seven rebounds.
The Owls will host Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22. Subscription-based live video of Monday's game will be available through FAUSports.com. All FAU games will be carried on ESPN West Palm 106.3, which has an APP for the Smart Phone platform.
