BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University Head Sand Volleyball Coach Capri Grotowski has announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. All six are expected to enroll in fall 2015.
"I am very excited to bring in the recruiting class of 2015, not only are they already very strong sand volleyball players, but they all have what it takes to become great," said Grotowski. "I have no doubt these young ladies will represent FAU on the sand, in the classroom and in the community with the highest regard."
Julia Lewkowicz is a senior at Coral Springs High School who won an under-18 sand volleyball national championship last summer.
"Julia leads by actions on and off the court," said Grotowski. "Her knowledge and skill set for the game will help bring FAU to the top."
Nicole Grant will come to FAU from Lakewood Ranch High School where she helped the Mustangs' indoor team to the 7A State semifinals as a senior.
"Nicole comes to FAU as a dominant player and blocker, a very strong leader whose drive and work ethic is admirable and contagious," Grotowski said.
Ashlan Cunningham (Grapevine, Texas) has trained at the Olympic Training Center and finished the 2013 season with a silver medal at the USA Beach National Championships. Ashlan was champion of the 2014 Spring Pro-Am and was named the 2014 NVL Female Athlete of the Year.
"A top defender joining us from Texas, Ashlan will look to bring her bright attitude and fearless determination to be a big part of our team," said Grotowski.
Jazmine Barker led Palm Harbor High School to the regional semifinals during the indoor season.
"Jasmine's a strong player who is a wall at the net," Growtowski said. "She will be a very big addition to FAU in our journey to the top."
Kaitlyn Smith has been a multiple time all-county selection in indoor volleyball, and has enjoyed success in the beach game, competing in the 2013 Junior Olympics in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
"Kaitlyn is a smart young lady, on and off the court, and is a huge asset to have on our side of the net," Grotowski said.
Amber Davis played her high school volleyball at Seminole Ridge in Loxahatchee.
"Amber's a great player and her style of the game is very hard to play against. I'm looking forward to having her represent the Owls," said Grotowski.
