Boca Raton, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University volleyball player Genesis Viera and diver Devon Neilson are FAU Players of the Week.
Viera was named Conference USA Setter of the Week. The sophomore averaged 46 assists in the Owls' three matches last week, including a career high 61 in a win over FIU on Wednesday night. She also contributed defensively, tallying 23 digs and five total blocks in three matches. Her efforts helped the Owls clinch a spot in the upcoming C-USA tournament. She is the second FAU volleyball player this season to earn conference recognition.
Neilson was FAU's only diver that competed against Texas A&M last week, posting a score of 306.975 in the 1 meter dive and 300.15 in the 3 meter dive. These scores mark lifetime bests in both events for the sophomore. With his 1 meter score, Neilson has qualified to compete on any board at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships, which will take place in March 2015.
Volleyball will face two conference opponents this week when they travel to Huntington, W. Va. to take on Marshall on Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. and then head to Hattiesburg, Miss. to play Southern Miss on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. Swimming and diving will compete against Florida Tech on Friday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m. in Melbourne, Fla.
