EL PASO, TEXAS - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to UTEP in four sets on Friday (17-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16).
Strong serving from Jelena Jovanovic staked the Owls (7-7, 1-2 C-USA) to a big lead in the first set and FAU cruised to a comfortable 25-17 win. Set number two was tied at 13, then the Miners (10-6, 2-1) took five of the next six points and never surrendered the lead to tie the match at a set each.
As was the case in the previous set, the third set was a tightly contested affair. A Liene Mellupe kill cut the UTEP lead to a single point at 20-19, but the Miners held on for a 25-21 win. In the fourth set, UTEP got out to an early lead and a run at the midway point clinched the victory.
Alessia Pizzoccheri had nine kills and Nathalie Rosado had a match high 23 digs. The Owls will travel to San Antonio to face UTSA at 1 p.m. eastern on Sunday. Links to live video and live stats are available at www.fausports.com.
