Early Goals Hurt Women's Soccer in FGCU Tournament Opener

Fort Myers, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team could not overcome three first-half goals by Illinois State University in Friday's 7-0 loss in the opening match of the Embassy Suites Classic, being hosted this weekend by Florida Gulf Coast University.
The Owls, now 0-2 on the season, will wrap up tournament action on Saturday, August 25, at 7 p.m. against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, which is 0-2 after losing to FGCU 2-1 on Friday.
Illinois State's Kyla Cross found the back of the net in the sixth minute on a shot to the upper left corner. Rachel Tejada gave the Redbirds a 2-0 advantage with a goal in the 11th minute. Not long afterward, Abby Van Deventer capped the first-half scoring with a goal. ISU would then add four goals in the second half.
FAU's Claire Emslie tallied four shots to lead the team's offensive attack. Freshman Taylor Sorrels, while juniors Marisa Russo and Brittney Nash also recorded a shot.
Illinois State improved to 2-0-1 on the season.
