Three Owls Earn Weekly SBC Swimming and Diving Honors

BOCA RATON, FL - Two Florida Atlantic University swimmers and one FAU diver earned the final Sun Belt Conference men's and women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors of the 2011-12 season. Mikolaj Czarnecki and Eszter Bucz were named the men's and women's swimmer of the week, respectively, and Ronald Cortina was named the men's diver of the week.
During his final home meet, Czarnecki, a senior from Lublin, Poland, picked up three individual wins, leading the Owls to a rout of Daytona State College (168-75). The senior finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.48), the 100-yard butterfly (50.12) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:34.92). It is his first weekly award of 2011-12.
Bucz, a native of Budapest, Hungary, continued her string of success with three individual victories as the women easily defeated both FIU (138-103) and Daytona State College (168-69). The junior topped the field in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:33.72), the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.09) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.25). Bucz also won the SBC Swimmer of the Week award for December 6, 2011.
Cortina followed up celebrating Senior Day ceremonies with his highest scores of the year on both boards, winning both events. He finished first on the 1-meter board with a score of 306.10, nearly 30 points higher than any other meet this season. Later, on the 3-meter board, he exceeded his season high by 11 points, finishing at 343.55. The Miami native also won Diver of the Week for November 8, 2011.
The three winners and the rest of the FAU squad are now setting their sights on the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, to be held Wednesday, February 22 through Saturday, February 25 in Rockwall, Texas.
