BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team will host two games that could prove crucial when they play Denver and North Texas this week.
Due to ULM being ineligible for the postseason, only 11 teams will advance to the Sun Belt tournament in Hot Springs, AR on March 3-6, 2012, which means the top five seeds will receive byes to the second round of the tournament. The Owls (9-14, 5-5 Sun Belt) are currently the sixth seeded team, meaning they would have to play on the first day of the tournament.
However, the Owls can take a great step towards securing a bye with a pair of victories week as they play the two teams immediately ahead of them in the standings. Denver (17-7, 7-4) is the number four seed while North Texas (13-10, 6-4) is the number five seed. Since this week's games are the only meetings with both teams, winning both games would put FAU in much better position for a bye, because they would hold the tiebreaker over both squads should they end up with the same conference record.
Fans will also have a chance to witness a pair of notable accomplishments. Senior guard Alex Tucker is just three assists shy of becoming FAU's all-time leader in career assists, while junior guard Raymond Taylor is just 24 points away from becoming the ninth 1,000 point scorer in school history.
Thursday's game versus Denver and Saturday's game versus North Texas will begin at 7 p.m. and live stats and audio of both games will be available at www.fausports.com.
