TROY, AL - The Florida Atlantic men's basketball team overcame yet another slow offensive start and defeated Troy 88-67 on Thursday night.
The Trojans (6-11, 1-5 Sun Belt) scored the first 13 points of the game to gain the early advantage, but couldn't maintain their hot start. The Owls (7-12, 3-3) held Troy scoreless for more than eight minutes in the first half, scoring 18 consecutive points over that time. Raymond Taylor scored seven of his 10 first half points during that run. FAU went to the half leading 42-29.
FAU stumbled out of the gate in the second half, as Troy cut the lead to nine in the early going. However, the Owls ran off eight straight points and the lead didn't fall below single digits for the rest of the game. FAU shot 55.4 (31-56) percent from the floor on the night, which is their best shooting night this season.
Greg Gantt scored a game high 25 points, he was one of four Owls in double figures, joined by Raymond Taylor (15), Pablo Bertone (13) and Shavar Richardson (11). FAU will travel to Miami to take on rival FIU on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will televised on CSS and CST.
