BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team will be traveling to Harrisonburg, VA this weekend to take on James Madison Sept. 2 and St. Bonaventure Sept. 4 in the James Madison University Tournament.
The Owls are currently 1-0-1 and will play JMU on Friday, who has only played one game this fall, losing 3-0 to George Washington. Last year the Dukes finished eighth in their conference and have strong returning players from the previous season including two-time all conference player Paul Wyatt Jr. who plays up top for JMU.
St. Bonaventure, who the Owls play on Sunday, is coming off a double-digit win season and a fourth place finish in the Atlantic 10 conference. St. Bonaventure is led by sophomore Emmett O'Connor who was named conference Co-Rookie of the Week twice, and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention Honors last season for his five goals and seven assists.
FAU will look to counter these two team's strong offensive attacks with its own offensive scheme. Lukas Simons has stood out so far this season for the Owls by putting the ball in the back of the net against FGCU, and by scoring the equalizer goal for the Owls against FIU. Senior, Darnell King has also been leading the team by scoring two goals to upset Top 25 ranked FGCU, and to create an opportunity and assisted on Simons' goal against FIU. For his efforts last week King earned national recognition by making the TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the week for Aug. 29.
Currently, the Owls are ranked first in the MAC with saves. FAU goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton has made 17 saves in his first two games for the Owls helping the defense to only allow one goal so far.
