Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University women's soccer Head Coach Brian Dooley has announced the hiring Brian Periman to the Owls' coaching staff for the 2011 season. Periman will spend time as goalkeepers coach.
Periman joins the staff after serving as the assistant goalkeeper coach at the University of Arizona. He also spent 2010 as the director of goalkeeping and head goalkeeper coach for the Arizona Rush Soccer Club of the Women's Premier Soccer League. The team had an undefeated record, allowing just two goals during the season and won the Under-23 national championship.
"As we improve our staff, having a dedicated goalkeeper coach is crucial to help our players perform at a high level," said Dooley. "At Arizona, Brian observed the training techniques of some of the nation's best collegiate and amateur athletes. He knows how to get the best out of the athletes under his care. We're glad to have him as a part of our staff this season."
Periman said he is also glad for the opportunity to work with returning goalkeepers at a talent-rich position on this year's team. The squad features junior Ashley Lantes and sophomore Courtney Zwetsch, players ranked among FAU's top five records for single-season saves.
"I'm very excited to get this position at such a young age," said Periman, who is 23 years old. "I'm excited for the start of the season and to help the team accomplish its goals."
Periman replaces former assistant Chris Gnehm, who is now on the staff at the University of Colorado.
The Owls stand 2-0 on the season after victories over Lynn University and Stetson University last weekend. FAU returns to the pitch on Friday, September 2 beginning at 7 p.m., against Mercer University.
