BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic head men's basketball coach Mike Jarvis has announced the team's schedule for the 2011-12 season.
FAU will open the 2011-12 season on November 8, when they host crosstown rival Lynn. The season's first road trip will take the Owls to Pullman, WA for the Athletes in Action Classic. From there, FAU will travel to Washington, DC to face American University. The Owls will return to Boca Raton to face 2011 NCAA Tournament team George Mason in a rematch from last season.
Shortly before Thanksgiving, FAU will begin a stretch of seven out of their eight games on the road, including four rematches from the 2010-11 season. That includes games at Kansas and Mississippi State, as well as an appearance in the Orange Bowl Classic, where the Owls will face Miami, their opponent in the 2011 NIT. The Owls begin a home and home series with Jacksonville on December 19 and Head Coach Mike Jarvis will return to the Boston area for the final game of the trip, when FAU plays Harvard on December 22.
Siena will provide the opposition on December 28, when FAU returns to the Burrow. Defense of the 2010-11 Sun Belt regular season title begins on New Year's Eve when FAU travels to Lafayette, LA to face the University of Louisiana. The annual "Bury the Burrow in Red" game highlights the home conference schedule, with the rival FIU Panthers coming to Boca Raton on February 4.
"Our home schedule features games against notable mid-major and NCAA Tournament teams George Mason and Siena in addition to our full home schedule in the increasingly difficult and competitive Sun Belt conference," said Coach Jarvis. "We also play three nonconference games in the state of Florida (vs. UM, USF and Jacksonville), so our fans throughout the state will have chances to see us play. It should be another exciting year of FAU basketball."
