BOCA RATON, FL - Days after Florida Atlantic University men's golfer Justin Thompson qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, two more Owls qualified for another prestigious golf tournament. Michael Baskovich and Kelly McHugh became eligible on Tuesday, June 7 for the tournament after both shooting a 69.
Baskovich and McHugh both helped lead the Owls this season. Baskovich averaged 74.97 strokes per 18 holes with a high tournament finish of second place at the Bethune-Cookman Invitational. McHugh wasn't far behind averaging 75 strokes per 18 holes and had a tournament high finish of sixth place at the Mission Inn Intercollegiate where he shot a 68 in his final round.
The Southern Amateur Championship tournament is ranked eighth in the world by Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings, and will be held at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, FL on July 13-16. 168 players will earn compete against each other for a chance to play in the PGA Tour Arnold Palmer Invitational.
