BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University athletics' team dentist, Dr. Richard Staller, was recognized this past weekend as a Fellow of the Academy for Sports Dentistry in Las Vegas at the annual Academy for Sports Dentistry Conference.
The Academy is an organization compiled of more than 600 international members ranging from dentists and trainers to coaches and educators who promote the avoidance of dental injuries to athletes. The honor Staller received is awarded annually to a recipient based on different qualifications as well as their dedication and interest in the research of sports related medicine and dentistry.
Last year, Staller was recognized by FAU and was presented with the President's Distinguished Service Medallion for all the time he had donated towards FAU student-athletes as FAU's first and only dentist. Staller has been involved with FAU athletics since football was started in 2000. He has spent his time at FAU treating dental needs of Owl athletes and he also has implemented a custom mouth-guard program. Staller also serves as the president of the official booster organization of FAU athletics and also has named a quarterback scholarship in honor of his father.
Beyond FAU, Staller has a dental practice in Delray Beach and has lectured and written articles on various dental topics including cosmetics, implants, reconstruction and sports dentistry.
