BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team remains in 10th place after the second round of play at the Sun Belt Conference Golf Championship in Muscle Shoals, AL. The Owls improved their second round of the tournament by 20 strokes (295) on Tuesday at the par 72 Fighting Joe course.
With a composite score of 610 (315, 295), the Owls still remain ahead of Western Kentucky who have a score of 616. Denver has kept the lead in first place (573), North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe are tied in second with a score of 577, Arkansas State is in fourth place 584 and with a score of 588 Louisiana-Lafayette rounds out the top five teams of the tournament.
Carlos Ortiz is the new individually leader. Ortiz from North Texas has a combined score of 137 (69, 68), one stroke better than Nick Wilson of Louisiana- Monroe who led the tournament in the first round. Wilson has a six under par score of 138.
On the second day of the tournament all the Owls improved their scores and all shot rounds in the 70s. Kelly McHugh leads the Owls with a two round total score of 150, Justin Thompson is tied for 34th place individually with a score of 152 and Casey Matthews sits a stroke behind Thompson with a score of 153. Michael Baskovich (155) and Clint Wilhelm (156) also had a good second round of golf to help the Owls improve their second round team score.
The Owls will continue the third and final day of the Sun Belt Conference Golf Championship Wednesday morning with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m.
