Women's Tennis Drops Senior Day Match to UCF

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team dropped its final tune up for next week's Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 5-2 setback to in-state rival UCF on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton.
The Owls conclude the regular season with a 13-11 record. The conference tournament is set to begin on Thursday, April 21, in Mobile, Ala. The visiting Knights were ranked No. 68 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll.
Both of FAU's points came in singles play as sophomore Marlene Ryan earned a 7-6 (4), 4-3 victory at the No. 2 position. The win was the 19th singles victory of the season for the Delray Beach native.
Senior Virginia Augustin was a winner in her final home match with a come-from-behind three-set victory at No. 5 singles. She dropped the opening set 6-4 before responding to win the second set 6-1. Then, won the deciding third-set tiebreaker 10-8.
Sophomore Natasha Basma dropped a three-set match at No. 3 singles 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (5).
Before the match, the FAU women's tennis program honored seniors Hannah Findlay and Augustin.
The Owls are patiently waiting to find out their seeding for the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
