Sprinters Highlight UCF Invitational for FAU

BOCA RATON, FL- The Florida Atlantic track team had another strong weekend with more runners creating career best times. Four individual races and a relay team highlighted the UCF Invitational in Orlando, FL for FAU.
Danielle Aromashodu was a stand out for the Owls with her 400 meter hurdle performance. Aromashodu placed third at the meet but ran a personal best time of 1:00.24. The freshman has been improving her time each meet and now leads the Sun Belt Conference with her time in the 400 meter hurdles.
Sophomore, Valerie Dixon shaved two seconds off her previous personal record to run a career best time of 2:13.61 in the 800 meter run which placed her in 7th at the event, but puts her in third place in the 800 meter run in the conference. Dixon is behind teammate Charlene Luxama who has the fastest time in the conference for the same event.
Annalisa Myers and Lauren Walton also had stand out performances for the sprinters. Myers got a new personal record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.39, while Walton got a time of 1:03.59 for a career best in the 400 meter hurdles. For the distance runners Deanna Loafman placed 22nd in the 1,500 meter run at the invitational, and recorded a personal best time of 4:56.18. The 4x400 meter relay team complied of Aromashodu, Myers, Dana Cannon and Luxama is now ranked first in the conference and 36th in the country with a time of 3:47.36.
"We're getting better week by week," said Assistant Coach Owen McGregor, "We are improving and doing pretty well as a track and field team. We are looking to finish strong."
Next weekend the FAU track team will be taking a small group to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL on April 1-2. Rebecca Hallam and Lisa-Maria Leutner will be competing in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Florida Relays. Leutner did not race during the indoor season because of injury, while Leutner ran during the indoor season and placed second in the 5k and third in the 3k in the conference.
