BOCA RATON, FL- Freshman Casey Matthews made a big push in the third day of the Spring Break Championship at Gleneagles Country Club to lead FAU to a second place finish. The Owls finished with rounds of 292, 291 and 280 for a composite score of 863. All together the team finished one under par, while Ohio State who led the tournament all three days ended with a 12-under par team score of 852.

Casey Matthews moved up from 17th place individually to being tied for fifth place at the end of the three rounds. With a three under par score of 213 to finish the tournament Matthews shot a 73, 72 and 68 in the three rounds.

Justin Thompson (73, 76, 71), Kelly McHugh (74, 75, 71) and Michael Baskovich (79, 71, 70) all tied for 24th place individually with composite scores of 220. Clinton Wilhelm concluded the scoring for the Owls and also shot in the 70s all three days with scores of 76, 73 and 76 for a total of 223 after the three rounds.

The team crept up into second place after finishing in sixth place in the second round of the event on Saturday. FAU's third round of 280 is the lowest round that the team has shot this season.

The Sun Belt Conference Championships will be the next tournament for the Owls which will be held at the Smoking Joe Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, AL on April 25-27.
