Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team continued its strong play, defeating Sun Belt Conference opponent University of South Alabama, 7-0, on Saturday at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The victory was the Owls' 10th of the season - the most wins for the program since 2004.
FAU climbs back to the .500 mark on the spring dual match season with a 10-10 record. The team returns to action on Wednesday, March 23, against Towson University.
The Owls won all six singles matches and was victorious on two of the three doubles courts in the afternoon match. South Alabama gave away the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles positions by default.
The duo of junior Justine Humair and sophomore Marlene Ryan clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 position. That momentum carried over to singles play, winning the first set in three of the five matches.
Humair rallied after dropping the opening set to win a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles for her 11th victory of the season. In the same fashion, Ryan would rally to score a win in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles for her team-leading 17th singles victory.
Other singles winners were sophomore Natasha Basma at No. 3, senior Virginia Augustin at No. 4 and sophomore Natasha Phillips at No. 5.
