BOCA RATON, FL - A lackluster shooting performance from the perimeter led to the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team's 72-64 loss to Louisiana on Saturday.
The two teams exchanged the lead several times in the early going as neither could grasp further control of the contest. A brief UL run gave the Ragin' Cajuns (10-14, 7-5 Sun Belt) a six point lead and they went into the locker room at the half up four, 31-27.
The early portion of the second half was a replay of the first as the UL and FAU exchanged the lead on several occasions. The game's turning point was an 8-0 UL run that put the lead to 11 with 4:20 remaining.
FAU pulled to within five with less than two minutes left, but J.J. Thomas sank a jumper as the shot clock expired to put the game out of reach.
Kore White and Shavar Richardson tied for the team lead with 11 points. The Owls (18-9, 10-3 Sun Belt) still have the overall conference lead. They travel to Miami on Saturday to face rival FIU. Game time is 7 p.m. and live audio will be available at www.fausports.com.
