MURFREESBORO, TN - Middle Tennessee State started the game on a 10-0 run and didn't look back en route to an 83-52 victory over FAU on Wednesday night at the Murphy Athletic Center.
The Owls (4-12, 1-4) struggled from the floor in the first half and made just four field goals in the opening stanza. On the flip side, the Blue Raiders (13-4, 4-0) were on fire from the floor and shot 63% in the first period and led 49-12 at the break.
Lyrell Barfield and Breana Turner continued to spearhead the offensive attack for FAU scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively. Barfield leads the club in points and minutes per game and Turner has scored 95 points in her last seven games.
The second half was a completely different story for FAU as they came out hot and shot 53% from the field. The Owls outscored the Blue Raiders 40-34 in the second period but the deficit was just too much to overcome.
FAU will get a short respite in Boca Raton before returning to the Nashville area on Saturday for a matchup against Western Kentucky.
Tip-off against the Lady Toppers is set for Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. eastern. Live audio of the game will be available on www.fausports.com.
