Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving programs will host seven home meets, highlighted by the FAU Invitational and a match against Florida State University, during the 2010-11 season, announced by Head Coach Steve Eckelkamp.
The home season will begin with a showdown with in-state rival FSU on October 8, followed by a women's meet against Florida Gulf Coast on October 9. Other events at the FAU Aquatics Center include a men's dual meet against Texas A&M University on November 11, and men's and women's dual meets against University of Denver and Rice University on December 18 and Indian River State College on November 6.
The FAU Invitational is planned during the 2011 portion of the schedule, on January 8.
The Owls will kick off the season by competing in the All Florida Invitational at the University of Florida on October 1-3 in Gainesville. The team will travel back to UF in January, and will have a road meet at the University of Miami during the same month.
The 2011 Sun Belt Conference Championships will be hosted by the University of North Texas in late February.
The women's team returns Eszter Bucz, who set school records in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.30), 400-yard individual medley (4:20.31) and 1,000-yard freestyle events during her freshman season. Jonna Nyback recorded two runner-up finishes in the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Meanwhile, the FAU men's team also looks to improve upon strong 2009-10 performances. Csaba Pek earned SBC Swimmer of the Week honors on three occasions last season as a sophomore. He posted a provisional NCAA Championships qualifying time in the 400-yard individual medley (4:54.31). Fellow sophomore Mikolaj Czarnecki broke his own school record with a provisionally-qualifying time of 1:47.00 while winning the 200-yard butterfly event at the conference championships.
