The nationally ranked Florida Atlantic University men's golf team will be among the top challengers in the three-day Sun Belt Conference Championship tournament which begins on Monday, April 26 at the Robert Trent Jones designed Trail's the Shoals golf course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
The Owls are ranked 77th in the recent Golfweek magazine national poll. They are the third highest ranked team in conference this spring, have recorded the second lowest scoring average in the league and have had seven top-five tournament finishes, including two event victories.
FAU's top five players are all separated by a two-stroke average during 18-hole rounds.
Senior Ben Silverman has had a consistent season and ranks sixth in the Sun Belt Conference with a 72.4 scoring average. The Thornhill, Ontario native recorded a career-best 65 score during the Bethune Cookman Tournament during the fall season.
Sophomore Carl McCauley is playing his best golf of the season, recording an under-par composite score in two of the last three tournaments. He posted consecutive 68-stroke rounds to finish second in the Bash at the Beach Invitational from April 10-11.
Junior Kelly McHugh is shooting 74.2 per round while sophomores Michael Baskovich and Justin Thompson have both compiled a 74.5 scoring average.
The winner of the 12-team Sun Belt Conference tournament will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I tournament.
