Women's Tennis Drops Tight Match with Nationally-Ranked DePaul

No. 25 ranked DePaul University withstood a late singles rally to knock off the Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team 5-2 on Thursday afternoon in a Senior Day Match at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton.
The loss drops the Owls to 8-10 on the season heading into April 3 season-finale against University of Albany. Today's match concluded the home schedule with the Owls compiling a 6-7 record at Patch Reef Park this spring. FAU has surpassed the seven-win total from last year. DePaul improves to 10-3 on the spring season.
Following the match, the team honored senior Natalia Totevska, who has won seven matches this season to improve her career total to 29 singles and 17 doubles match victories.
"Natalia excels in the classroom and on the court," said Women's Tennis Head Coach Marcy Hora-Cava. "She is in top physical condition and the team just feeds off of her emotion. Natalia is someone that has put her stamp on this program and will be tough to replace."
FAU mounted a rally in singles as junior Virginia Augustin picked up the Owls' first point of the match with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles. The Wellington, Fla. native won by 6-4, 6-2 scores to improve her record to 7-4 on the season.
Sophomore Erika Mrazkova won her 11th match of the season with a 6-1, 7-5 straight-set victory at No. 5 singles. Mrazkova has now won 19 matches during her career.
Fellow sophomore Justine Humair fell in a hard-fought three-set decision to anchor the singles lineup. She won the opening set 6-3 and lost the deciding third set by an identical 6-3 score.
The match against Albany is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Stuart.
