Playing its fourth dual match in six days, the Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team was on the losing end of a 6-0 decision to Furman University on Thursday afternoon at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The match featured all singles matches as morning rain showers prevented the two teams from squaring off in doubles competition.
The Owls, whose record dropped to 5-8 on the spring, will return to the court on Friday to face Seton Hall University, starting at 11 a.m. Furman improves to 5-4 on the dual match season.
Showcasing the competitiveness between the two teams, two of Thursday's matches went the full three-set distance, two other matches featured sets that were decided by 7-5 scores and another match was decided by 6-4, 6-4 scores.
Junior Virginia Augustin lost a hard-fought, three-set match at No. 6 singles - her first singles match since March 3 against Duquesne. She won the opening frame 7-5 before dropping the next two sets 6-2, 6-4.
Sophomore Cassie Bergeson rallied to force a third set at No. 5 singles by winning the second set 6-4. She lost the deciding set by a 6-3 score.
