BOCA RATON, FL - Despite a rough start to the 2010-11 season, the women's basketball team starts fresh this week as they open Sun Belt play on Wednesday night on the road against Louisiana-Monroe.
"We are excited for the challenge of opening up the conference schedule on the road," said head coach Chancellor Dugan. "We have a young squad and they will certainly be tested this week. "
FAU went 10-8 in the Sun Belt Conference a season ago, their fourth year in the SBC. Six out of FAU's 10 victories came on the road, the most since joining the conference prior to the the 2006-07 season.
The first two tests in conference play will both be away from Boca Raton with ULM on Wednesday and a visit to Troy to finish up the road trip on Sunday. The matchup against the Trojans will be aired on the Sun Belt Network.
Lyrell Barfield leads FAU in both points (12.3) and minutes (27.9) per game and is the lone senior on the Owls' roster. FAU defeated ULM 77-60 in their only meeting last season on January 9. Barfield paced the team with 18 points in the victory.
All-time the Owls are 2-2 against the Warhawks and have not yet won at Fant-Ewing Coliseum (0-1).
The Owls return to the Burrow on Wednesday, January 5 for a two-game Sun Belt home stand against South Alabama and Arkansas State.
