Boca Raton, Fla. - Competing against some of the nation's top swimmers brings out the best for Florida Atlantic University standout swimmers Eszter Bucz and Csaba Pek. The duo has been honored this week as the Sun Belt Conference's "Male and Female Swimmers of the Week" following performances in the prestigious Georgia Tech Invitational.
This marks the third time Bucz was recognized by the conference this season, while Pek was honored for the first time this winter after being honored on three occasions last season.
Bucz had record-setting and NCAA provisionally qualifying performances in the meet, which featured No. 1-ranked Texas A&M University, defending NCAA Division I national champion University of Florida and in-state rival Florida State University. The sophomore had two top-five efforts, broke a 23-year-old school record by 1.5 seconds and improved her own school record in another event. Her fourth-place 4:15.20 performance in the 400-yard individual medley is ranked as the 15th fastest time in the country this season by www.collegeswimming.com. Bucz also placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.73) and 10th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.76).
Meanwhile, Pek had season-best times and top-10 performances in all four events he competed in to help the Owls to a strong seventh-place finish in Atlanta. The junior placed fifth in the 400-yard individual medley (3:55.71), seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (a season-best 1:52.02), ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:50.21) and 10th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.94).
Seven FAU swimmers and divers have been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference throughout this young season. The list of honorees includes swimmers Adam Corbin and Jonna Nyback, and divers Maegan Butler, Ryan King and Garret LeMon.
The Owls return to the pool for a triangular meet against conference opponent University of Denver and Rice University on Saturday, December 18 at the FAU Aquatic Center, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
