Florida Atlantic University senior defender Janelle Blake has closed out her career in style by receiving recognition from the Sun Belt Conference prior to the team's conference tournament appearance. She has been named second team All-Sun Belt, announced during the pre-tournament banquet on Tuesday in Bowling Green, Ky.
Blake becomes the ninth player to be honored by the conference since joining the Sun Belt in 2006.
Blake, a two-time team captain, was named to league's preseason team and put together a strong fall campaign. The Nepean, Ontario native has added three assists and is the vocal leader of the Owls' defensive unit. Her assists came in league victories against Arkansas State University, University of Arkansas-Little Rock, Middle Tennessee State and the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
She also played the second-most minutes (1,294) and has started 14 of the 15 matches she has appeared in. Blake ranks third all time in FAU's career record book for minutes played (6,517) and has started 71 matches in her career.
The Owls qualified as the No. 7 seed for the Sun Belt Conference tournament with a 5-6 mark in league action. FAU will play MTSU in the first round on Wednesday, November 3 at 5 p.m.
