BOCA RATON, FL - James McCormick had five saves, but surrended two goals as the Florida Atlantic men's soccer team lost to rival FIU 2-0 on Saturday night.
The first half was a defense oriented one as the two teams combined for just seven shots before the intermission. Both sides came out much more aggressive to start the second period and as a result both sides had good chances to score. The Golden Panthers took advantage in the 66th minute when Nicolas Rodriguez found Jahbari Willis on a free kick and Willis headed the ball past McCormick to put FIU ahead 1-0.
Rodriquez scored the second goal of the match in the 89th minute when McCormick mishandled a ball and was beaten by a ball to the far post. Rocco Pecora led the Owls with three shots on the night.
FAU (2-6) wraps up its three match homestand next Saturday when they host Northern Illinois. The match will start at 7 p.m. and live stats will be available via GameTracker at www.fausports.com.
