Bradenton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team compiled three consistent rounds in its season-opening tournament on Monday in the University of South Florida's Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton. The team finished 15th in the tournament that featured many of the southern regions top collegiate teams.
The Owls began the tournament with back-to-back 318 rounds on Sunday before carding a 322 team score during Monday's final round. The team finished just one stroke behind fellow Sun Belt Conference competitor University of South Alabama and seven shots from league member Troy University, which placed 12th. Daytona State College captured the tournament title.
Leading FAU's effort was senior Elisabetta Bertini, who shot a three-over-par 75 round on Monday on the challenging Waterlefe Golf and River Club course. Bertini finished the event in a tie for 33rd place overall with a 236 stroke score over the 54-hole tournament. Sophomore Marilyn Cadieux tallied a 237 composite score, highlighted by the team's low event round with a one-over-par 73 in the first round. Senior Jennifer Norton finished with a 245 score.
FAU will return to the links on Friday, October 8, when it begins the three-day Xavier Invitational at the LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach. Follow the team's progress throughout the tournament on www.fausports.com.
