Women 2nd, Men 7th at Sun Belt Cross Country Championships

BOWLING GREEN, KY - Friederike Feil and Rebecca Hallam helped the Florida Atlantic women's cross country team to a 2nd place finish at the Sun Belt Championships on Saturday. The second place finish is the ties FAU's best ever at a conference championship meet and is the best since joining the Sun Belt in 2006.
Feil's time of 17:48.9 was good enough for a third place finish, which ties Trisha Doyle for the highest individual finish in FAU history. Feil earned cross country all-conference honors for the fourth time in her career. She was joined on the all-conference team by Rebecca Hallam. Hallam took sixth place with a time of 18:15.0. It marks the first time that FAU had two runners finished that well since joining the Sun Belt.
Lisa-Marie Leutner claimed 15th place with a time of 18:59.8. Leutner was closely followed by Lindsay Lucas, who ran a 19:02.1 to finish 17th. Katie Quick finished up the scoring for the Owls, taking 45th place in 20:15.1. Helen Mann (20:46.5/57th) and Deanna Loafman (20:52.2/58th) were the other runners for the women.
"The women really ran as well as we could have hoped for and I am very excited with our performance. It's the first time we put four runners in the top-20 and we're looking forward to regionals," said Alex Smolka.
On the men's side, FAU finished in 7th place for the third consecutive year. As he has for most of the year, Josh Wolfe was the Owls' high male finisher, completing the course in 26:46.5, good for 25th. Wolfe set a FAU course record. Ryan Toledo (27:13.3/32nd) was the next best finisher. He was immediately followed by Jordan Dopkins, who was 33rd in 27:20.1. Ryan Davis' time of 27:57.6 was good enough to place 40th. Michael Neel was the final scoring runner for the men, placing 47th in 28:18.4.
Neil Coffman (29:25.0/60th) Mohammed Razib (29:28.5/61st) and Eric Kessler (29:41.0/62nd) also competed for the men.
"This is the most consistent effort we've ever gotten from the men from (1st finisher to 5th finisher)," said Smolka.
The women's team will travel to NCAA Regionals, hosted by Samford University on November 13, In Hoover, AL.
