BOCA RATON, FL - Anne Vaughan had eight kills to lead the team, but the Florida Atlantic volleyball team lost to Middle Tennessee State in four sets (29-27, 21-25, 13-25, 21-25) on Saturday night.
The Owls (10-13, 1-6 Sun Belt) trailed 15-10 in the first set, but used serving runs by Cintia Nightingale and Kristyna Dzmuranova to take a 22-20 lead. MTSU (18-5, 9-1) tied the set at 23 and the teams exchanged the next eight points before a Christina Wallinger service ace and Nightingale service ace gave FAU the set.
The second set was tied at 14 when a 5-0 Blue Raider run put them ahead for good. MTSU won the set 25-21 despite five kills by Dzmuranova. MTSU stormed out of the intermission, winning the third set 25-13 and leading the entire set.
Set number four was a struggle from the beginning as neither side managed a lead bigger than three points through the early going. MTSU led 20-18 late in the set when consecutive FAU attack errors pushed the lead to four, which was the final margin in the set, 25-21.
FAU travels to Arkansas State next Friday to play the Red Wolves. The match starts at 8:00 p.m.
