Mike Jarvis to Speak at Coconut Palm Elementary School

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University men's basketball head coach Mike Jarvis will speak to students at Coconut Palm Elementary School, 13601 Monarch Lakes Blvd., in Miramar, on Thursday, October 1. Jarvis will speak to students in grades 3-5 from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. and grades K-2 from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m.
This will mark the second consecutive year of Jarvis' speech, which will cover the importance of literacy, listening and behavior. Jarvis' visit is part of a partnership between FAU Athletics and Coconut Palm, which includes FAU student-athletes serving as mentors to the elementary school's students. This agreement has resulted in a 20 percent increase in the school's accelerated reader program.
The partnership also was given the "Partnership of the Year" award at the Partners in Education (PIE) Community Involvement Awards in May.
