Gainesville, FL - The Florida Atlantic University cross country team fared well at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville on Friday night.
Trey Andrews was once again the high finisher for the men, placing 9th in the 8K in a time of 25:21.90 which is his second school record in as many meets. Friederike Feil was the high finisher for the women in her first meet of the year. Stephen Dassin (26:13.90/21st) improved upon his time by almost two minutes from last year's meet. Ryan Davis (26:52.00/27th) ran very well in his first collegiate 8K.
Feil, who took last season off, shook off the rust to place 13th in the women's 5K. Lisa Leutner was the next highest finisher for the Owls, placing 19th in 18:45.11. Helen Mann (19:40.44/43rd) had her second straight strong performance of the year.
"The men ran really well, finishing 5th sets us up well for the rest of the season. The women had a pretty good meet putting two in the top-20 and we'll be looking to improve going forward," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka.
The cross country team returns to action on Saturday, October 20 when they travel to Orlando, FL for the Walt Disney World Classic.
