BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University head volleyball coach Jody Brown has released the team's 2009 schedule.
The Owls begin the 2009 season at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, where they face North Florida, Depaul, the host Knights and Jacksonville. The USF Best Western Invitational will be the next stop for the team, where they play Winthrop and USF. FAU will enter conference play on September 18 when they travel to Monroe, LA to take on ULM as part of the Adidas Warhawk Bayou Showdown. Jackson State and McNeese State will also participate in the tournament.
Coach Brown and the Owls return to Boca Raton for their home opener against Middle Tennessee State on October 2, followed by a match against Western Kentucky University on October 3. The team has seven home matches during the month of October, including a nonconference match against Florida Gulf Coast on October 20. After a trip to the state of Louisiana and return trips to MTSU and WKU, the Owls will host rival FIU in the final match of the regular season on November 14.
"The conference schedule in particular, is very tough, because not only to we have just 7 of our 17 conference matches at home, but we have to play all three teams (MTSU, WKU, FIU) that made the NCAA Tournament twice," said Brown.
The volleyball team opens the 2009 season with its Alumni Match on August 22.
