PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Florida Atlantic University track team set its second school record in as many days at the Penn Relays on Friday. The quartet of Trishauna Clarke, Jessica Smith, Toyria Mattear and Patricia Gumbs set the sprint medley relay record of 3:58.82. The time bettered the previous mark by more than five seconds. The Owls placed 14th in the race, ahead of schools such as North Carolina, Rutgers, Kansas and South Carolina.
"Toyria (55.30) and Patricia (2:14) both ran good splits in the race and that was a big part of us being able to set the record," said assistant coach Owen McGregor.
The 4x200 relay team of Clarke, Smith, Krystal McCarty and Kerry-Ann Stewart finished in a time of 1:37.99. Clarke's split of 23.24 and Smith's split of 23.80 would be regional qualifying times in the 200 meters.
Action at the Penn Relays wraps up on Saturday. Live results and video are available at www.thepennrelays.com.
