Angelo Sands Quotes
On Finishing in the top 10:
I am really pleased with the results. It is really the first time we have had an opportunity to go up against these caliber of schools. We are not too far behind most of these schools. We are close and we are getting there but still have a long way to go.
Overall feelings about the tournament:
In all my years I don't remember a tournament, as a participant or coach, having this much support from a golf course. The membership from Glen Eagles Country Club was phenomenal. They went above and beyond to support the tournament. That enthusiasm, warmth and hospitality was felt by everyone. Every single player and every single coach had the same feelings. Words can't describe what it meant to make this a success.
On the Windy Weather
The conditions of the course were excellent, the maintenance staff at Gleneagles did a great job. However, the least controlled factor of golf and most difficult thing about playing in Florida is the wind. It was 20-30 miles per hour on Friday and Saturday and had an impact on the scoring.
Looking Ahead to the Sun-Belt Conference Champions in April
We are looking forward to it. We are looking forward to the rest over the next few days. Then we will start retooling and thinking about the conference championship in Houston. There are a lot of good teams in our conference. We are going to have to play our best.
On Having Ohio State University Head Coach Jim Brown in Attendance During His Last Season of Coaching
In our business every once and a while people transcend from being a coach to an institution. That is what Jim Brown is. 13 of the coaches at the tournament combine for 99 years of experience. The 14th coach, Ohio State's Jim Brown, has 36 years of coaching experience. Those numbers speak as loud as any words about his dedication to the program, university and players. He is a coach's coach.
Comments on Kelly McHugh's Top 10 Finish
During his freshman year he made the team on a 190 yard Eagle on the last hole of qualifiers and was dead last the first semester of freshman year. He played great in the spring of his freshman year. He just continues to get better and better. I have never seen anyone in my life turn it around so drastically in one year.
Kelly McHugh Quotes
How you played today:
I played pretty solid and stayed patient. I could have played a lot better. I was happy to birdie my last three holes.
On playing against a high-caliber field
A little more pressure because it is our home tournament and we definitely wanted to play well. I knew our team was just as good as any others. I was pleased with everything. I thought we played pretty well.
Comments on the Sun-Belt Conference Championships
We are looking pretty good. We can play with the teams in the Sun Belt. We have a much better team than last year and are going to be well prepared for it.
