BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team will play host to its first FAU Spring Break Championship from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29 at Gleneagles Country Club in Delray Beach.
The 14-team field has representatives from the Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Conference-USA, Mid-American and Sun Belt conferences. The University of Illinois (No. 7), University of Michigan (No. 40) and University of Iowa (No. 46) enter the tournament ranked among the nation's top-50 teams.
Marquette University's Mike Van Sickle (No. 11), Illinois' Scott Langley (No. 13), Ohio State University's Vaughn Snyder (No. 31), Iowa's Cole Peevler (No. 35), Northwestern University's David Lipsky (No. 36) and the University of Missouri's Peter Malnati (No. 44) are ranked among the nation's top 50 individuals.
FAU has improved its national ranking and can continue their climb with a positive tournament performance. The Owls entered the 2008-09 season nationally-ranked at No. 240. Since starting competition in September 2008, the team has moved to a No. 134 ranking - an improvement of 106 spots. Highlights of the season thus far include winning the Treasure Coast Men's Classic and dual meets with Niagara University, Dayton University and Rutgers University. FAU also was runner-up at the Stetson Invitational and Bethune-Cookman Invitational.
FAU sophomore Kelly McHugh has three dual meet wins to his credit and freshman Justin Thompson won the Treasure Coast Men's Classic.
