FAU Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Second

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's golf team tied for second place at the Eastern Kentucky University El Diablo Collegiate (5,902 Yards/ PAR 72) held in Ocala. FAU (300, 314, 313- 927) tied with James Madison University (303, 316, 308 -927) for runner-up honors while Ball State University (304, 301, 309 - 914) won the event by 13 strokes.

The tournament marked the second time this season that the Owls have finished runner-up, also achieving that feat at the L'PGA International Xavier Invitational last fall.

Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn (68, 71, 74- 213) won the tournament by ten strokes and was three under par. Phol-Uayporn had not hit under par during her senior season but hit all three rounds under par at the EKU tournament, including a seasonal best 68 stroke first round.

"I really needed that first round" Phol-Uayporn said. "It gave me a lot of confidence."

Phol-Uayporn also led the tournament in Par 4 (4.07) and Par 5 (4.50) scoring average. The victory is the first of her senior year and seventh of her career. She attributes the victory to a slight change in mentality. "I can't go out there and focus on beating everyone else" the Bangkok, Thailand native said. "I've just got to focus on my own game."

Teammates Elisabetta Bertini (78, 83, 77- 238) and Kimberly D'Andrea (76, 78, 83- 238) tied for 19th and Bertini moved up several positions in the final round. Karine Bolme (78, 81, 83- 242) tied for 31st and was FAU's fourth and final scorer. Brooke McPoyle's (83, 87, 79- 249) last round was her best and allowed her to move up 14 spots to finish tied for 47th.

FAU will compete in the Cincinnati Spring Invitational held at the Plantation Inn Golf Club in Crystal River. The three round tournament will begin on Friday, March 27 and conclude on Saturday, March 28.
