BOCA RATON, FL - Freshman Greg Gantt scored a career-high 24 points on Monday as the Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team defeated Albany 81-65.
Gantt posted a career-high for the second game in a row after scoring 19 in FAU's last game at USF. He is averaging 21.5 a game since being inserted into the starting lineup.
The Owls shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but held just a 37-34 lead at the break. Albany managed to take a 40-39 lead early in the second half, but back-to-back threes by Raymond Taylor and another from Gantt helped the Owls to a 48-44 lead. FAU led 62-56 when the Owls went on a 17-4 run to put the game out of reach.
"What happened tonight was that we played how we were capable of playing and we'll hopefully see a lot more of it in the future," said head coach Mike Jarvis after the game.
Gantt was one four FAU players in double-digits, joined by Brett Royster (12), Shavar Richardson (10) and Sanchez Hughley (10). DeMonte Simpson added a career-high 10 rebounds. The Owls will take time off for exams before returning to the court on December 10 to host Warner Southern. The game will start at 7 p.m.
