AMES, IA - The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team fell to No. 24 Iowa State 80-40 on Sunday afternoon from Hilton Coliseum. The Owls were led on offense by Jessica Knurick who tallied 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
FAU got off to a slow start on offense shooting only 6-for-29 in the first half. Despite the cold shooting, the Owls held an early lead of 5-4 and trailed by as few as six points with five minutes to play in the first half. However, a 14-3 run by the Cyclones in the final five minutes before halftime gave Iowa State a 17-point lead heading into the locker room.
In the second half, Iowa State took firm control of the game and started the first eight minutes on a 22-6 run. The Cyclones outscored FAU 47-24 in the second half en route to the victory.
A pair of freshman paced the offense for Iowa State as Anna Prins and Chelsea Poppens tallied 20 and 17 points, respectively, in their first collegiate games. The 6-foot-6 Prins went 7-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-5 from three-point range.
For FAU, Brittany Bowe scored eight points with five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Teri Stamps also added seven points and went 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
The Owls will quickly return to action on Tuesday night in Raleigh, NC for a game against North Carolina State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm. The game can be heard live online at www.fausports.com with the pregame show starting at 6:45 pm.
