BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team defeated Lynn 68-49 in an exhibition on Tuesday night at FAU Arena. The Owls were led on offense by Breana Turner, who led all scorers with 15 points. The sophomore also added four rebounds and three steals. FAU will begin the regular season on Friday at home against Webber International.
"I'm excited but we still have a lot to work on," said head coach Chancellor Dugan. "We've got to do a much better job coming out and being focused and see what the defense gives us."
The Owls started off slow against Lynn shooting only 34 percent from the floor in the first half. FAU took a one-point lead into the halftime locker room but came out focused in the second half and outscored Lynn 45-27. The Owls forced 32 turnovers in the game.
"We've been working so hard in the offseason, we are so excited to get out there and play," said senior Brittany Bowe. "We came out with a lot of intensity but we kind of lost some towards the end of the first half. However we definitely came out strong in the second half."
Bowe finished with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals as the senior paced a steady offensive attack for the Owls that improved as the game went on. Seniors Jessica Knurick and Erica Caldwell also had solid offensive games scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively.
FAU will continue practice this week before opening the regular season at home on Friday against Webber International. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
